WINDRUSH SCHEME
In 2018, the UK government accepted that it had wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights to Commonwealth citizens from the Caribbean, Africa, and Southern Asia in what is now known as the ‘Windrush Scandal’.
You may be able to apply under the Windrush Scheme if you can meet one of the following criteria:
- You came to the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1973
- You’re a child of someone who came to the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1973
- You came to the UK from any country before 31 December 1988 and you have indefinite leave to remain
If your application is successful you will be given a document to confirm your status in the UK which will allow you to work, live and study in the UK.
You may also be entitled to compensation under the Windrush Compensation Scheme.
CLAIM COMPENSATION UNDER WINDRUSH COMPENSATION SCHEME
The Windrush Compensation Scheme was set up by the UK government to compensate victims of the Windrush scandal for their suffering.
We can assist you to claim financial compensation under the Windrush Compensation Scheme for the losses that you have suffered as a result of not being able to prove your right to work in the UK.

WINDRUSH COMPENSATION SCHEME
In 2019, the government established the Windrush Compensation Scheme to provide victims of the scandal with compensation for their suffering.
You will be eligible to make a claim if you meet one of the following criteria
- You came to the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1973
- You’re a child of someone who came to the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1973
- You came to the UK from any country before 31 December 1988 and you have indefinite leave to remain
You may also be eligible if you are either:
- The close family member of someone eligible to claim and you have had significant losses yourself
- Representing the estate of someone who would have been eligible.
If you are eligible, you must then show that you are entitled to compensation. You will be entitled if you have suffered impacts or losses because you could not show that you had a right to live in the UK.
You can make a claim for compensation in one or more of the following categories:
Employment
Immigration fees
Housing
Health
Driving Licences
Education
Living costs - for example, rent, utilities, contributions towards food and household essentials, travel and prescription fees
Daily Life - for example, you missed major family events or could not travel
The Home Office will assess whether you are entitled to compensation and make an award based on their criteria.
