UK Immigration advice for couples and international families
A spouse visa or unmarried partner visa allows the partner of a British citizen, Irish citizen, settled person or other qualifying UK-based sponsor to live with them in the UK.
For many couples, this application is about far more than immigration status. It affects where you live, how you plan your family life, your ability to work, your long-term residence in the UK and your route to settlement and British citizenship.
Templeton advises married couples, civil partners, unmarried partners and international families on spouse and partner visa applications. We provide careful, discreet and tailored advice, particularly where the financial position, relationship history or immigration background is not straightforward.
Who this route is for
You may be able to apply as a spouse or partner if you are married to, in a civil partnership with, or in a qualifying long-term relationship with a person who is British, Irish, settled in the UK or otherwise eligible to sponsor a partner under the family immigration rules.
Unmarried partners may also be able to apply where they can show a durable relationship. The evidence of this must be carefully prepared and presented.
The Home Office will usually consider the relationship, financial position, accommodation, English language ability and immigration history. Where there are children, previous marriages, international travel, overseas income, business ownership or complex assets, the application often requires additional care.
Why careful preparation matters
Spouse visa applications are evidence-led. A genuine relationship may still be refused if the application is poorly prepared, if financial evidence is incomplete or if the explanation of the couple’s circumstances is unclear.
This is particularly important where clients rely on self-employment, company income, savings, overseas income, investment income, property arrangements or other non-standard financial evidence. These cases require strategic preparation rather than a simple document upload.
How Templeton can help
We can advise you on the correct route, review your eligibility, identify the evidence required and prepare the application on your behalf.
We can also assist with extensions, switching applications, settlement planning and applications following a previous refusal.
Our role is to present your circumstances clearly, anticipate potential issues and help you avoid unnecessary delay or refusal.
