Working in the UK

UK work visa advice for professionals, executives and international talent

The UK offers a range of immigration routes for individuals who wish to work, develop their career, transfer to a UK business, build a professional profile or pursue opportunities in a specialist field.

The correct route will depend on your employment offer, qualifications, sector, sponsor, career history and long-term objectives. Some routes require a licensed sponsor, while others may be available without sponsorship.

Templeton advises professionals, senior employees, entrepreneurs, graduates and international talent on UK work visa options and long-term immigration planning.

Sponsored work routes

Sponsored work routes usually require a UK organisation to hold the appropriate sponsor licence and assign a Certificate of Sponsorship.

These routes may include Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Global Business Mobility and certain Temporary Worker categories. The Home Office will consider the role, salary, sponsor, skill level and the individual’s eligibility.

For senior employees, specialist professionals, internationally mobile staff and individuals moving between group companies, the right route should be considered alongside wider career and settlement objectives.

Unsponsored and flexible routes

Some individuals may be able to work in the UK without a traditional employer sponsor.

This may include routes such as Global Talent, High Potential Individual, Graduate, Innovator Founder or other categories depending on the person’s background and objectives.

These routes can be attractive for individuals with strong academic, professional, entrepreneurial or sector-specific credentials, but they require careful analysis before an application is made.

Long-term planning

Not every work route leads directly to settlement. Some routes are designed for temporary assignments, while others may provide a pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Before choosing a route, it is important to consider whether the visa aligns with your long-term plans, family circumstances, business interests and future eligibility for settlement or citizenship.

How Templeton can help

We can assess your circumstances, identify suitable work visa options and advise on the strengths and risks of each route. We can also assist with applications, extensions, switching routes, dependant family members and settlement planning.

Where the application involves a sponsoring employer, we can also coordinate with the business to ensure that the sponsorship requirements are properly addressed.
